Every year, we take one week to help bring education, understanding, and awareness to victims of crime. This important week is just around the corner.

National Crime Victims’ Rights Week will be recognized here in Idaho and across the country from April 6-12, a couple of weeks earlier than recent years. This year’s theme ties together the ideas of connecting, kinship, and healing. It’s described by sponsors as a call to action to recognize the shared humanity that should be at the center of supporting victims and survivors of crime. The focus on kinship is intended to tap into a state of being for survivors and drive essential connections to others, rights, and services.

As always, April will be a busy month on the victim advocacy front. Other awareness campaigns for April include Sexual Assault Awareness and Child Abuse Prevention. Organizations across the state typically schedule events, vigils, and fundraisers that are critical to their mission and ability to aid and counsel victims of assault and abuse. It’s early, but never too early, to remind that our social media platforms will be used to share and highlight education events during the month.
